Bgm. Dr. Gerhard Seifried (SPÖ)born in Wolfsberg in 1961, journalist and author (Chronologie eines Zerfalls; Drei Männer, Drei Genossen)Dr. Gerhard Seifried studied journalism and art history at the University of Vienna, graduating with a PhD. His journalistic career began in 1986 as editor of the "Kärntner Tageszeitung" newspaper. After a brief spell as press officer of the Social Democratic Party (SPÖ) in Carinthia, he went freelance. From 1990 he worked for the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation (ORF), reporting on the break-up of Yugoslavia. Together with his TV crew, he delivered the first pictures of the war in Slovenia to Austria and distinguished himself as a correspondent from the war zones in the former Yugoslavia. From 1992 he was on the TV news editorial team, which involved several trips to Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Serbia. Between 1993 and 1995 he was ORF correspondent in Bonn. After returning to Austria, he reported for the "Willkommen Österreich" TV programme. He provided coverage for the Austrian evening news from September 1995 to August 1997, and then worked for ORF Carinthia until 1998. He has been Mayor of Wolfsberg since 11 January 1998. On 9 March 2003 Dr. Gerhard Seifried was directly re-elected Mayor of Wolfsberg, gaining 69.94% of the vote.
